Golf is an interesting game, to say the least; golf if a prominent fixture for business people and high profiles celebrities. Golf is a game that is played by the normal, blue collar worker, and the high class and right at an exclusive country club. Because of the way that golf was founded, and is continued to this day, there is a certain type of etiquette that is expected by those who are playing. Golf etiquette can be confusing and seem pointless at times, but there are a certain few things that you should always do and watch for when playing golf.
Swinging and Hitting
Swinging and hitting is the essence of golf. There are a few things that you should consider when on the golf course, whether it be with friends, partners, or on your own.
-If anyone is swinging, be sure to be as silent as possible. It is easily considered rude to be talking or making a large amount of noise when someone is trying to focus on their swing.
-Be sure to stay out of the way while others are swinging their club, whether it be for practice or for a shot. In the same breath, be sure that you check your surroundings before swinging your own club, whether it be for practice, or for a shot.
-While many people tend to joke around, and use the phrase “Fore!” as a joke for other things, it is something that is necessary when playing golf. If you see that your ball is heading toward anyone on the course, be sure to yell this out. This gives an automatic signal to anyone on the course to watch for a ball in the air.
Other Important Etiquette Pints
-If you are a part of a group that is moving slow, and find that there is a group behind you, it is considered good etiquette to allow the group to play through. Some people like to play a slow round of golf, while others enjoy playing a faster paced game. Either way is fine, but slower groups should allow the faster groups to play around them so that they are not held up.
-Taking care of the golf course is something that is important for anyone who is playing golf. If you hit a chunk of grass out of the ground, be sure to attempt to replace it. When driving your golf cart, be sure to avoid the playing grass (fairway) as much as physically possible, and never, ever, drive up on the green.
Some people will never touch a golf course, but many people will be asked to play; whether it is between friends, connections, or business partners and possible clients, golf is always a great way to connect, relax, and enjoy your free time. By knowing the basics of golf etiquette, you can be sure that you seem like a polished golf player, no matter the problems with your swing.
